Aida Topuzyan was fired for helping a student cheat on an exam

There have been various speculations in the press about the prime minister's dismissal of Aida Topuzyan, deputy minister of education and science. The reality is that Aida Topuzyan was the Ministry of Education and Science official that the press had been hinting about as having been prevented by the president's supervision service from passing a cribsheet to her protégé - the daughter of People's Party of Armenia chairman Stepan Demirchyan, during the graduating class's final examinations. The question of dismissing Aida Topuzyan arose after this incident.

In response to an inquiry by the Association of Investigative Journalists, Sergo Yeritsyan, the minister of education and science, stated that six tenth-grade students had received unsatisfactory marks on the June 3, 2004 centralized math exam for students aspiring to graduate with honors. One of them was Lusine Demirchyan. Other students who had received unsatisfactory marks were the niece of Gagik Beglaryan, mayor of the Kentron district of Yerevan, and the daughter of Sirekan Ohanyan, head of the Department on Town-Planning and Natural Resources of the Government of Armenia.
