Armenia’s SIS Chief of Staff to Expand Mining Business

Davit Sukiasyan, Chief of Staff of Armenia’s Special Investigation Service, is expanding his mining business.

ML Mining Ltd, which he fully owns, is set to carry out geological surveys in the southern expanse of the Voskehat basalt mine in Aragatsotn Province.

The company received a 50-year mining permit for Voskehat one year ago.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, ML Mining holds usage permits for five mines in Armenia.

ML Mining currently manufactures sand, basalt and pumice.

Last June, the government freed the company from paying customs tax on two pieces of equipment worth AMD 75 million imported from Bulgaria.

In addition to ML Mining, Sukiasyan owns four other companies engaged in mining. (See: Armenia’s SIS Chief of Staff: Unaccounted Wealth and Big Business Interests in Mining)

One wonders how Sukiasyan can effectively juggle his business affairs and official obligations at the same time.

P.S. A public hearing to review the preliminary findings of ML Mining’s Voskehat Mine Environmental Impact Assessment will be held on January 25 at the Aghavnatoun Municipality.
