Armenian President Tells French Senate President that Both Countries Have Undergone "Momentous Change"

During his meeting today with French Senate President Gérard Larcher, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan noted that momentous changes have taken place in both countries – the election of a young and energetic president in France, and Armenia’s upcoming move from a semi-presidential system to a fully parliamentarian government.

Sargsyan said the frequent meetings between top officials of the two countries underlined the importance that Paris and Yerevan place on continuing political dialog.

The Armenian president said that this was his fourth meeting with Gérard Larcher in France, and hoped that their next meeting would take place in Armenia.

Gérard Larcher, in turn, described French-Armenian relations as developing on a high level, between two friendly countries based on mutual trust.

The two broached the issue of Armenia-EU relations and placed importance on implementing the policy approaches enshrined in the recent agreement (CEPA) signed between Armenia and the European Union.

Larcher also asked Sargsyan to update him on the Karabakh conflict settlement process and regional issues pertaining to Armenia.
