Karen Karapetyan Says Last Minute Demands by Pashinyan Caused Cancellation of Tomorrow’s Meeting

Karapetyan calls on President Sarkissian to organize roundtable discussion of all political forces

Acting Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan has released a statement addressed to the citizenry saying that he has called off his planned meeting tomorrow with protest leader Nikol Pashinyan because the latter has made new unilateral demands at the last minute.

Karapetyan says the changes are about the format of the meeting, the agenda, and how the meeting will be covered.

“Pashinyan has demanded a list of the people who will attend from our side and has declared that the talks will revolve around his agenda,” Karapetyan writes, arguing that these demands don’t envisage dialog or negotiations, merely a forum for Pashinyan to declare his personal views.

“Having certain experience in conducting negotiations, I’ve never heard of such a format,” Karapetyan writes.

The acting prime minister then calls on President Armen Sarkissian to organize a meeting at which all parliamentary and non-parliamentary political forces will attend to discuss the current situation in Armenia and the possibility of holding snap parliamentary elections.

Note - Given the collapse of talks tomorrow, Nikol Pashinyan has called on citizens to start gathering tomorrow morning at Republic Square.
