Pashinyan Appoints New National Security Service Head

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has appointed Artour Vanetsyan to replace Georgy Kutoyan as Head of the National Security Service. Kutoyan was dismissed earlier today.

Vanetsyan had been serving as Head of the National Security Service’s Yerevan Department.

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has already endorsed the appointment.

Both he and the newly appointed police chief are former criminal regime members. These are the most powerful positions in Armenia. With these appointments, no one can expect institutional changes because they have always been a part of these institutions as they have operated over the past twenty years.
