Pashinyan Orders Verification of Military Waivers for Sons of Past and Present Government Officials

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has ordered an investigation to ascertain whether the claims presented to have military service waivers granted for the sons of present and past government officials are in fact legal and substantiated.

Arman Yeghoyan, Pashinyan’s press secretary, confirmed the news to Hetq.

Several weeks ago, when Pashinyan presented his government’s program to the parliament for approval, he said the following:

“In these conditions, it is desirable that we specifically examine the issue of military service for the sons of top officials, including parliamentary deputies and ministers. We must see that those, who were freed from military service due to reasons not legally substantiated, should serve, really serve, in the army, just like those young people who carried out the peaceful popular velvet revolution in Armenia.”
