Armenian President Armen Sarkissian today hosted Titular Archbishop of Aemona and Apostolic Nuncio to Armenia and Georgia José Avelino Bettencourt, congratulating the cleric on his recent diplomatic appointment and wishing success.

Sarkissian, noted that he served as independent Armenia’s first ambassador to the Vatican and was thus familiar with the long and rich history of Armenian-Vatican relations.

The Armenian president said this history is a great foundation won which to foster future links between the Vatican and Yerevan.
