Republican Party MP Gagik Melikyan lashed out at the political opposition in Armenia during a press conference today, charging opponents of the government with merely criticizing the regime while overlooking its achievements.

MP Melikyan said that the Armenian public had great expectations from the current government and that many of the country’s social problems would drastically see an improvement after the spring parliamentary elections.

He also labelled a joint proposal by the Heritage Party and the ARF to conduct parliamentary elections on a proportional basis as “populist” ranting.

In any event, such a move would first have to be reviewed and adopted by the Central Election Commission, he argued.
