Fifteen Artsakh MPs have signed a petition to release former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan from pre-trial detention.
Artsakh National Assembly Presidential Press Secretary Anush Ghavalyan reported the news in a Facebook post, writing that the petition was handed to Armenia’s prosecutor general.
Ghavalyan did not tell Hetq who the fifteen MPs were.
A similar petition in Armenia has been signed by 46 MPs.
On July 28, Kocharyan was charged with “usurping state power” during the March1-2, 2008 public protests in Yerevan that claimed the lives of ten individuals. The court then decreed that he be detained for two months, arguing that the former president could influence the upcoming trial if issued bail.
