Henrik Abrahamyan, brother of former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, was arrested today on suspicion of illegal arms procurement and possession.
Armenia’s Special Investigative Service (SIS) says it searched a defunct mechanical factory owned by Hovik Abrahamyan, but registered under the name of Smbik Gevorgyan, as part of an ongoing investigation into the events of March 1-2, 2008.
The above photo shows the cache of illegal weapons found at the factory during yesterday’s search.
The SIS says that it is working with the National Security Service to see whether the weapons found were used in March 2008 against protestors in Yerevan who contested the presidential election results in favor of Serzh Sargsyan.
Ten individuals, including two police officers, were killed during the March 2008 public protests.
