Births to Decrease in Armenia, Says Expert

Demographer Ruben Yeganyan says that the birth rate in Armenia will decrease during the next five years while the mortality rate remains more or less the same.

He says the decrease, which started to be noticed last year, is due to the numerically lesser generation that was born during the 1990s.

Yeganyan noted that as of today, there are 13,000 deaths in Armenia annually for every 10,000 births.

He added that the trend has been for two children to be born from every three couples.
