Yerevan Court Reviews Detention of Serzh Sargsyan's Nephew Charged with Attempted Murder

A Yerevan court is today reviewing the pre-trial detention issue of Hayk Sargsyan, nephew of former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who has been charged with attempted murder and illegal arms possession.

The attempted murder charge dates to April 2007 shooting, on a Yerevan street, of a man called Davit Simonyan.

The case had been dropped a month later but was recently reopened by the Prosecutor General’s Office based on new evidence pointing to Hayk Sargsyan as the gunman.

The court must decide whether to keep Sargsyan in detention or offer bail.

Hayk Sargsyan told the court that he’s the father of two young children, has a college education, and is not a flight risk.

A в 2007 году, по чьему указанию дело было закрыто, ведь совершена была попытка убийства, свалив вину на другого? Почему тогда прокуратура, не разобравшись до конца, закрыло дело? И много таких почему.
