Pashinyan Orders Dismissal of Prosperous Armenia and ARF Ministers
Describing them as “counter-revolutionaries”, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told demonstrators outside the National Assembly that he has signed orders calling on Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP)and ARF ministers in his government to resign.
Earlier this evening, MPs from these two parties voted in favor of a Republican Party of Armenia bill that would effectively ban the dissolution of the parliament by other than legal means in the case that the prime minister resigns, and a new prime minister isn’t elected within the two-week deadline.
The bill passed with a vote of 67 in favor. Only Yelk Alliance MPs opposed it.
“Yesterday and today a dreadful bill was introduced by the PAP and the ARF that aims to stage a counter-revolution in Armenia. Approval of that bill is a conspiracy against the supreme authority of Armenia, i.e., the Armenian people,” Pashinyan told the crowd of several thousand demonstrating outside the National Assembly in Yerevan.
Pashinyan said that PAP and ARF provincial governors would be formally dismissed at the next cabinet session, but that they’re effectively stripped of all power as of tonight.
