PACE Adopts Declarations on Teghut, Genocide and Hrant Dink

Strasbourg, France―Zaruhi Postanjyan, the Heritage Party’s delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, has spearheaded two written declarations made public at PACE’s plenary session underway here.

The first one, entitled “Condemnation of the man-made ecological disaster project of Teghut” and signed by 44 European parliamentarians representing 27 nations, relates toArmenia’s environmental crisis and Teghut in particular. It notes: “We strongly condemn the continuing violations of the international obligations of the Armenian government and we demand that all decisions regarding the Teghut mining exploitation be considered invalid.” The full declaration is accessible here

The second declaration, headlined “Call to draw attention to the persistent scourge of impunity inTurkey” and bearing the signatures of 35 PACE delegates from 24 countries, marks the fifth anniversary of the Turkish state’s murder of Hrant Dink and calls for recognition of the Armenian, Assyrian, and Pontic Greek genocides. “We are concerned about the continuous denial of the Genocide of Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians (Syriacs) by the Turkish authorities and the use of Article 301 of the Criminal Code for criminal persecution of journalists and writers,” reads the document, which can be viewed in its entirety here.
