Petty theft is up 30% in the Kentron and Nork-Marash districts of Yerevan, according to the Prosecutor General's Office (GPO).

According to PGO stats, a third of the cases reported took place in Yerevan’s buses and minivans in the form of pickpocketing.

Given that pickpocketing is on the rise in other Yerevan districts as well, the PGO wrote to Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, urging him to install cameras in public buses and minivans and to post signs warning of the pickpocketing danger.

The Yerevan Municipality has instructed all companies operating public transportation routes to install the cameras and post the warning signs.
