Armenia's Human Rights Defender Meets Council of Europe Officials

Armenian Human Rights Defender (HRD) Arman Tatoyan yesterday, in Strasbourg, met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović, Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General Human Rights and Rule of Law (Council of Europe), and  Snežana Samardžić-Marković, Director General of Democracy (Council of Europe).

According to a HRD’s office press release, issues related to the defense of the rights of those with disabilities, the psychologically impaired, and women and children in Armenia were discussed.

The sides also discussed the steps now being taken in Armenia to prevent cases of ill treatment of the incarcerated.

At the meetings, Tatoyan said he backed the development of a policy of increased early conditional release in Armenia.
