Defense Minister Tonoyan and CoE Official Discuss Human Rights Situation in Armenian Military

Armenian Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan and Council of Europe Director General Human Rights Christos Giakoumopoulos today met in Yerevan and discussed legal and institutional mechanisms to safeguard human rights within the ranks of the Armenian military.

According to a ministry press release, Tonoyan listed the steps now being taken in this direction.

The minister also stressed the need to maintain human rights norms within the context of the Karabakh conflict and called on the international community to make sure that military personnel and civilians jailed by both sides in the conflict receive a fair trial.

Agenda matters related to Armenia-CoE cooperation were also discussed.
