Armenian Parliament Prez Thanks U.S. for 25 Years of Democracy Building Assistance

Noting that the United States is an important ally, Armenian National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan hosted newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne Tracey and wished her success in fostering closer relations between the two countries.

Mirzoyan, according to an Armenian government press release, noted that the soon to be reorganized Armenia-U.S. Friendship Group and the U.S. Congressional Armenian Congress will serve as important links to develop ties between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Mirzoyan also thanked the U.S. for the role it has played over the past 25 years in strengthening democracy, spurring the economy, and facilitating sectoral reform in Armenia.

“It’s an honor to meet with you, President of the National Assembly, and reconfirm United States support for Armenia’s democratic institutions,” Ambassador Tracey said.

The two are said to have discussed developing trade relations, noting that great potential for cooperation exists in the IT sector.
