Kocharyan in Court for Pre-Trial Extension Hearing

Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan was in the courtroom today at a hearing reviewing a motion filed by the Special Investigative Service (SIS) to extend his pre-trial detention.

Kocharyan, charged with usurping state power in March 2008, was brought to the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction from his holding cell.

On December 7,  2018, Armenia’s Court of Appeals  ruled in favor of detaining former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, charged with usurping state power during the March 1, 2008 post-election public protests.

If the court approves the motion it will be the second such extension for Kocharyan.

On January 18, Yerevan’s Court of General jurisdiction extended Kocharyan’s pre-trial detention by two months.
