Pashinyan to Council of Europe: Get Involved in Armenia's Judicial Reform Process

Against the backdrop of a crisis surrounding Armenia’s judicial system and the public’s demand for urgent reforms, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a working breakfast today, in Yerevan, with members of a delegation headed by the Council of Europe’s Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law Christos Giakoumopoulos.

Today’s meeting was a follow-up to Pashinyan’s May 22 meeting with Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland regarding the Council of Europe’s promise to assist Armenia in implementing judicial reforms.

Pashinyan, according to an Armenian government press release, told Giakoumopoulos that given Armenia’s membership in the Council of Europe it would be more appropriate if it directly got involved in the reform process rather than merely assisting it.
