Sevan National Park Department Heads Accepted Bribes to Allow Illegal Fishing
Following this summer’s algae blooms at Lake Sevan, Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) has more disheartening news to report about the lake.
Ina statement issued today, the NSS reports that a number of Sevan National Park SNCO department heads took bribes to allow people to illegally harvest whitefish (sig) from the lake.
The NSS says it recently seized an illegal catch, describing it as large, and donated the fish to the Vardenis Retirement Home and Sevan Psychiatric Hospital.
Poaching of seriously depleted whitefish stocks in Sevan remains an unresolved issue.
