
Armenian Justice Minister Meets with Relatives of Those Serving Life Sentences
Armenian Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan today met with the mothers of Artur Mkrtchyan, Ashot Kirakosyan, Artur Kocharyan and Arman Hovsepyan, sentenced to life imprisonment.
Journalists for Human Rights NGO President Zhanna Alexanyan also participated in the meeting.
A ministry press release says that the relatives, at Badasayan’s recommendation, presented issues related to the review of criminal cases, the proper use of the institute of early conditional release, the application of a new regulation to change the type of correctional facility for persons sentenced to life imprisonment, as well as penalties imposed by the penitentiary and probation services. with the procedure for reporting on the replacement of a milder sentence.
In response, Badasyan that the legal bases for reviewing the cases are provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code.
