Pashinyan to Voice His Opinion on Amulsar Tonight

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will weigh in on the Amulsar gold mine debate tonight.

Pashinyan, in a Facebook post, says he has heard all sides of the debate, the pros and the cons regarding the mine’s operation, and will address the nation this evening.

Construction of the controversial mine has been in limbo for close to a year after activists blocked roads leading to the site.

After assuming power in 2018, Pashinyan said he would issue a final decision regarding Amulsar after reviewing the findings of an independent environmental assessment impact study.

The Armenian government contracted with the Beirut-based ELARD company top issue such a report.

The original English report (“Independent 3rd Party Assessment of the Impacts on Water Resources and Geology, Biodiversity and Air Quality) is dated July 22, 2019.

An Armenian translation was published on August 13.
