Sanitek Applies to International Court of Arbitration Over Yerevan Contract Cancellation

Following the Yerevan Municipality’s October 3 cancellation of its contract, Sanitek today announced that it has begun the process of applying to the International Court of Arbitration (ICC) in Paris.

"And as a first step in this process, the shareholder of the company, Nicholas El Tawil, acting on behalf of the other shareholders, today notified the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Municipality of Yerevan of the existence of an investment dispute,” the Sanitek statement reads.

The Beirut-based sanitation company, which had won the tender to clean Yerevan’s streets of trash and snow, charges the municipality of fabricating contract violations, upon which the Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal case against Sanitek.

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has said he isn't worried if Sanitek takes the municipality to arbitration court.
