Armenian, Georgian Prime Ministers Meet in Yerevan; Discuss Economic, Cultural Cooperation

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia arrived in Armenia today on an official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Following the official welcoming ceremony, the two prime ministers met in private for talks on various matters.

According to an Armenian government press release, Pashinyan and Gakharia made the following remarks at their meeting.

“Dear Mr. Prime Minister, Dear Mr. Gakharia, I am pleased to welcome you to Yerevan as prime minister of the brotherly Georgian people. I'm glad that before our meeting, we were already able to establish warm and working relationships. It is important to note that we are convinced that as a result of today's negotiations, relations between our countries will improve. If asked what the achievements of my one and a half years in office have been, I would first of all mark the formation of a new level of relations with Georgia. At the same time, I am convinced that as a result of our work, bilateral cooperation will develop much further. Welcome, Mr. Prime Minister,” Pashinyan said.

“Dear Mr. Prime Minister, Dear Nikol, Thank you for your warm welcome. It is a great honor for me to be in Armenia on an official visit. We have a great responsibility to our ancestors who laid the foundation for the friendship of our countries and peoples. I would like to assure you that our relations will be further enhanced by the fulfillment of our commitments, which will also affect our citizens. Although we highly value our bilateral relations, we have good opportunities to develop ties in the economic, cultural, and other spheres. Thanks again for the warm welcome,” Gakharia said in turn.

The two discussed a wide range of issues on Armenian-Georgian cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, transport, agriculture and culture.

They attached importance to the prospects of further development in the field of transport communication.

Pashinyan and Gakharia expressed confidence that economic cooperation can boost bilateral trade turnover. In this context, the interlocutors emphasized the necessity of activating the activity of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission and expressed satisfaction with the results of the recent sitting.

The parties emphasized the importance of infrastructure improvements, focusing on the reconstruction of the Gogavan-Gougut and Bavra-Ninotsminda highways.
