Yerevan Delegation Attends Tbilisi Events Celebrating 150th Anniversary of Hovhannes Tumanyan

A delegation headed by Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Virabyan is in Tbilisi to participate in cultural events commemorating the 150th anniversary of Armenian writer, poet and public figure Hovhannes Tumanyan.

The three-day commemoration, which kicked off on October 24, has been organized in cooperation with the Yerevan Municipality.

Members of the Yerevan delegation, including composer Tigran Mansurian, first visited the Armenian Holy Etchmiadzin Church in Tbilisi.

Then, accompanied by the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, Archbishop Kirakos Davtyan, the Deputy Mayor of Yerevan and the members of the delegation visited the Hayartun Cultural, Educational and Youth Center of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Fifty children attend the center's preschool.

Delegation members also visited the pantheon of Armenian writers and public figures in Tbilisi to pay their respects.

Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Virabyan then visited the Tbilisi construction site where the Adamyan State Armenian Drama Theater is being renovated.

Adamyan Theater Artistic Director Armen Bayanduryan noted that the dilapidated building of the cultural center is being completely reconstructed.

The only state-owned Armenian theater outside Armenia has played a major role in the cultural life of Tbilisi Armenians since its inception and serves as a unique bridge in Armenian-Georgian relations.
