Armenian Government Liquidates a Number of Boarding Schools in Armenia

The Armenian government today decided to liquidate the children’s care and protection boarding schools in Dilijan, Byureghavan, Gyumri and Children's Care and Protection N 2 boarding school after Fridtjof Nansen SNCO.

The money raised from the liquidation of these organizations will increase the number of crisis care centers and foster families in the regions and in Yerevan and provide them with financial support.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said that the Government's policy is to ensure child care and upbringing in the family, returning children from daycare facilities to biological families, foster care, adoption, as well as reducing the number of children in boarding and protection facilities.

Individual social development programs for children and their families have been developed based on the needs assessed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The Ministry is collaborating with international and non-governmental organizations to implement individual social development programs for children and their families.

A study by the ministry has shown that majority of children in Dilijan, Byureghavan, Gyumri and Children's Care and Protection N 2 boarding school after Fridtjof Nansen SNCO were accommodated there due to socio-economic issues in their families.
