Armenian Embassy in Qatar Hosts Reception for President Sarkissian
On November 18, as part of his official visit to Qatar, President Armen Sarkissian, accompanied by his spouse, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Doha, which opened this year.
President Sarkissian, according to an Armenian government press release, was greeted by the Ambassador of Armenia to the State of Qatar Gegham Gharibjanyan, Armenian Apostolic Church Primate in Qatar Archimandrite Boghos Tinkjian, representatives of the Armenian community, as well as pupils of the Armenian Mesrobian Seminary.
Greeting those present, President Sargsyan considered the day historic.
"Qatar is a friendly country with a friendly people. We have been waiting for the embassy to open for many years. During my many visits, when I met many of you, there was talk of when the Republic of Armenia would finally have its embassy in Qatar,” Sarkissian noted. “It is a reality today, and I think that especially the life of your Armenian community of Qatar will change significantly since you will be closer and more directly connected to the homeland. The presence of the homeland will be not only in your hearts but also in your daily life. I think Armenia and Qatar have much to do in politics, economics, business relations and cultural life. The embassy should be the bridge that not only connects you to the homeland but also deepens Armenia-Qatar relations. In other words, I expect each of you to be actively involved in the development of Armenia-Qatar relations.”
Congratulating everyone on the opening of the embassy, President Sarkissian expressed special gratitude to the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the friendly people of Qatar for their support in opening the embassy.
"It would not have been possible if the embassy had not been provided with the good will and great financial support of Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. I express my gratitude to both the people of Qatar, the government and the Emir,” Sarkissian said.
