Yerevan Court Hands Down Prison Sentences to Judge, Lawyer for Bribery

A Yerevan court today handed down prison sentences to a judge and a lawyer on assorted bribery charges.

Judge Gagik Hebroyan, who served as a judge of the Kotayk Court of First Instance, was found guilty of taking a bribe and sentenced to seven years. The court also ordered the confiscation of property not to exceed 1.714 million drams.

Lawyer Vahagn Danielyan was found guilty of aiding and abetting bribery and sentenced to two years.

The court found that Judge Gagik Heboyan, with the assistance of Danielyan, demanded and received a bribe equivalent to US$2,500.

Heboyan had originally demanded a bribe of $3,500 from a citizen in order to rescind the payment of a 3.6 million dram state fee.
