Abovyan Penitentiary: Women Convicts
A Hetq team recently visited Armenia’s Abovyan Penitentiary, the only such institution in the country that holds women convicts and detainees.
Most of the women preferred not to speak while being photographed. In many cases, their loved ones don’t know they've been jailed.
Some of the women work in the penitentiary’s cafeteria and are paid.
The banner reads: “Education is important. One’s fate depends on it.”
