Armenia: World Bank Group to Assist in Attracting Direct Foreign Investment and Developing Women's Entrepreneurship

On December 5, the World Bank Group, with the support of the United Kingdom's Good Governance Foundation, launched a new advisory program in Armenia to help the government reform, attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and develop women's entrepreneurship to foster business growth and job creation in the country.

The official launch of the program was held at the Ministry of Economy.

Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan said in his welcoming speech:

“I congratulate all of us on the launch of an advisory program in Armenia. We highly value the support of our international partners in key areas such as improving the business environment, stimulating investment, where consulting efforts will help us shape the reform agenda of the Government of the Republic of Armenia. We hope that by implementing this program we will not only be able to develop policies but also improve communication with the private sector so that policies are more understandable and expected, and if the private sector has an economic outlook, we should also use this opportunity and make it possible. to make our communication more efficient and profitable. In terms of empowering women entrepreneurship, we know that women represent very valuable assets in our society, and it is important for them to be more engaged, ready to respond to tomorrow's economic challenges, use their economic capabilities, and influence that mood throughout the social activity. We will continue the reform process to create new opportunities for the development of the private sector in Armenia. "

Since 2008, the involvement of FDIs in Armenia has become a challenge due to the global economic crisis and the economic crisis of Russia, the country's main trading partner, as well as legislative and institutional issues.

Armenia is also confronting inequality between men and women in the field of entrepreneurship, which results in lower economic output, equivalent to 14% of GDP.
