Armenian President and WHO Director-General Discuss COVID-19 Situation

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian today, by telephone, discussed the COVID-19 situation in Armenia with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Sarkissian and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met in Munich, last month, and discussed the unfolding health crisis.

Sarkissian, according to a statement released by his office, thanked Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus for the technical and professional support provided by the WHO to Armenia during the Munich meeting.

The WTO Director General emphasized that the organization would keep the situation in Armenia in focus.

Sarkissian noted that he agreed with the WTO Director's approach to the need for national strategies for prevention and response, and said that an interdepartmental commission had been set up to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Armenia, and that the national strategy guidelines proposed by the organization would be very valuable

Sarkissian stressed the importance of consulting activities of WHO specialists already in Armenia, noting the need to ensure its continuity and to involve additional specialists.
