March 31 Artsakh Elections to Proceed as Scheduled Despite COVID-19 Fears
Artsakh’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that scheduled March 31 elections for president and the parliament will proceed as planned, albeit with certain changes given the need to ensure public health safety given the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The CEC says it has urged candidates to refrain from organizing large campaign events and that meetings of central and territorial election commissions be held mainly upon request.
The CEC has also called on candidates and political party representatives to communicate via the internet.
The CEC says that seminars-meetings previously planned by the CEC officials in all regions of the country and in Stepanakert with representatives of precinct electoral commissions will be canceled.
The Artsakh government says that no COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country.
