Armenian Deputy Health Minister: "We're Doing Our Best"

Armenian Deputy Minister of Health Lena Nanushyan told reporters today in Yerevan that  while no country is safe from the coronavirus, Armenia is doing all it can to reduce the number of infections in the country.

The ministry has confirmed 64 COIVID-19 cases in Armenia so far.

Nanushyan made her remarks at a press conference during which she provided an overview of the global health crisis resulting from the spread of the virus.

She said that 700 tests for the virus have been conducted so far, adding that the ministry will receive 5,000 test kits by the end of this week.

When asked as to how people are selected for testing, Nanushyan replied that the ministry follows the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and international partners.

“Tests are carried out when we see symptoms such as coughing, a fever, respiratory problems, and when a person has arrived from a country where the virus is present, or when a person has come into contact with an infected individual. The person has to fit a set definition,” Nanushyan said.

She said that virus hotline set up by the ministry has received 14,000 calls since March 1.

Nanushyan said that only two of the infected individuals in Armenia are receiving medical treatment.
