Two Turkish Journalists Released After One Year in Jail

Two Turkish journalists were released yesterday after having spent 375days in jail on charges that they had connections with Ergenekon, a network alleged to have plotted political mayhem in Turkey.

Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener were arrested in March 2011 along with 11 other suspects in the Oda TV case.

The Oda TV suspects were charged by the prosecutor with generating moral support in the media for those who were preparing to stage a coup and laying the ground for a coup. Also arrested was Soner Yalcin, owner of Oda TV.

In 2009, Nedim Sener wrote: Dink Cinayeti ve Istihbarat Yalanlari (Dink Murder and the Intelligence Lies (2009) which exposes the negligence of the police forces the in murder of Hrant Dink, with official documents.

In 2011 he authored: Kirmizi Cuma (The Red Friday), a book in which he looks for the fingerprints of all institutions of the state including the Armed Forces and MIT (National Intelligence Organization), and of Ergenekon, in the Hrant Dink murder. This is an extended version of “Dink Murder and Intelligence Lies” where he explains the negligence of the police forces the in murder of Hrant Dink, with official documents.

Ahmet Sık wrote a book with a colleague, Ertugrul Mavioglu, about the Ergenekon case in 2010, called Kirk Katir Kirk Satir (Between a Rock and a Hard Place).
