Armenia: National Center for Disease Control and Prevention Directors Say They Need More Specialists

At a meeting today in Yerevan, urban and regional directors of the country’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDCP) told Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan that the health sector faces a lack of certain specialists to confront the growing coronavirus outbreak in Armenia.

The directors reported that in terms of staff, more epidemiologists and bacteriologists are needed.

Developed last year, the Chair of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the National Institute of Health of the RA Ministry of Health is tasked with providing opportunities for training and education.

Torosyan, according to a statement released by the health ministry, said that that the renovation and equipping of three NCDCP branches (in the cities of Etchmiadzin, Ashtarak and Abovyan) will start soon.

Torosyan noted that repair and re-equipping have already been carried out in five regional branches - Gegharkunik, Tavush, Syunik, Lori and Shirak.

Thanking health sector workers for their work, Torosyan took note of the issues raised and instructed the directors to submit proposals to solve the problems as soon as possible.
