Section of Yerevan's Ring Park to Get Much Needed Facelift

The Yerevan Municipality reports that the renovation program of the 6th section of the Armenian capital’s Ring Park has begun

The park, now in deplorable condition, will be given a new look. In total, an area of about 16,000 square meters will be improved.

The Union of Armenians of Ukraine has sponsored the renovation of 5,044 square meters of public space adjacent to the St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral. Thanks to this commitment, Yerevan will also have a modern public skate park.

A medical aid station will operate on site. Perimeter lighting will be provided using LED system.

While compiling the general plan of Yerevan, architect Alexander Tamanyan designed the Ring Park in the center of the city to clean the air, create a healthy microclimate, and make it a place of rest.

However, in the 60s, the area was significantly reduced. The ring became crescent-shaped, and since the late 90s, the par has been subject to over commercialization and neglect.

Almost 60% of this section of the park is occupied by 98 commercial lessees.
