Armenia: Government Officials and Winemakers Discuss Problems Caused by Coronavirus Crisis

At the initiative of the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia (VWFA),   representatives of large grape growing and wine producing enterprises met with Armenian Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan, Deputy Ministers Arman Khojoyan and Tigran Gabrielyan to discuss the challenges they face due to the coronavirus crisis.

The meeting took place in the town of Etchmiadzin, amidst the vineyards and apricot display gardens of the state.

Some sector representatives told officials they still haven’t received needed equipment imported from overseas. Minister Khachatryan assured them the government will release the equipment from customs duties shortly.

During the meeting, VWFA Executive Director Zaruhi Muradyan briefed the officials on the collection and talked about phylloxera-resistant grape varieties, emphasizing the genetics of grape varieties in Armenia.
