The accompanying photo, showing a help wanted ad for activists for the ruling Republican Party in Armenia, has been making the rounds on various internet sites.

When I telephoned the number, I was greeted by a pleasant female voice. She wanted to know where I was from.

When I answered that I live in Yerevan, she said she was sorry but that the job offer was only for those living in the regions.

I called up the second number and this time I stated that I lived on Komitas Street. The woman told me to visit the Republican Party headquarters on Vagharshyan Street and that I would be directed to the party’s Arpa-Sevan office.

The woman said the job was related to the upcoming parliamentary elections.

She didn't forget to point out that it was a good-paying job.
