Turkish Appeals Court Upholds Sentence for Dink Killer
A Turkish Appeals Court has upheld the 22 year and 10 month sentence handed down to Ogün Samast, who gunned down Hrant Dink in 2007.
Samast was sentenced on charges of "premeditated murder" and "unlicensed possession of weapons" and sentenced on July 25, 2011.
In accordance with the Law on Criminal Execution, Samast has to serve two thirds of the sentence. This would mean that he remained in prison for 14 years and eight months. The period of four years when Samast was detained after his arrest and during the trial procedures is going to be subtracted.
Thus, Samast must remain imprisoned for another ten years and eight months.
