Armenian President Tells Israeli President to Halt Arms Sales to Azerbaijan
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian and his Israeli counterpart, Reuven Rivlin, spoke by phone today and discussed the issue of Israeli arm sales to Azerbaijan.
President Sarkissian, according to a statement released by his office, noted that the weapons and ammunition sold by Israel to Azerbaijan are used not only for defense purposes, as Israel has previously claimed, but also for offensive purposes.
These weapons are widely being used today to target civilian targets in Artsakh, Sarkissian said.
He urged the Israeli president to use his influence in his country's government to immediately suspend arms supplies to Azerbaijan, arguing that continued arms sales could endanger relations between Armenia and Israel.
President Rivlin spromised to raise the issue with his government.
