Armenian President Thanks Visiting Greek FM for His Country's "Friendship at this Difficult Time"

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian today hosted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Nikos Dendias, who is on a working visit to Armenia, and the delegation headed by him.

Sarkissian’s office released the following statement on the meeting:

We appreciate your visit at any time, but especially today, when we are facing really difficult times, friendship and trust are especially important."

Sarkissian said that these are also difficult times for friendly Greece, fortunately, "the volume and level of violence that exists in the case of Armenia and Artsakh is absent there. But the source of instability and violence is the same," he said.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said that the friendship between the two peoples has strengthened over the centuries.

"It was expressed not only by our relations and mutual understanding, but also by our common pain," said the Greek Foreign Minister. “You went through the genocide, we, the Greeks of Pontus, went through the genocide. We always remember that: we cannot allow it to be forgotten. It is clear that our countries have fallen victim to aggression during development. You are facing much more difficult situations today. It is obvious. I consider my visit to Yerevan as a symbol of our friendship, support for Armenia, the Armenian people. "

The meeting focused on the large-scale military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, its encroachments on the territory of Armenia, the ceasefire agreement, the ability to maintain it, as well as its continued violation by Azerbaijan.

Issues related to further deepening of cooperation between the two friendly countries were also discussed.
