Armenian Parliament Enacts Tougher Penalties for Draft Dodgers, Deserters

The Armenian National Assembly today, at the second reading, unanimously approved a bill that will toughen the laws regarding evading the draft, military training and mobilization during a state of war.

Punishment for the above infractions will increase to between six and twelve years from the current four to six years.

Those leaving their military posts during a state of war will also face six to twelve years imprisonment.

Army deserters will now face eight to fifteen years imprisonment instead of the current six to twelve.
