Social Network Accounts of Armenian POWs "Hacked", Says Armenian HRD

The Human Rights Defender’s Office (HRDO) in Armenia reports that the social networks of Armenian POWs have been accessed and are now being managed by Azerbaijani users to disseminate disinformation and to incite public panic in Armenia and Artsakh.

The HRDO did not specify how the Azerbaijani users acquired the passwords of the Armenian POWs, only saying they were “illegally seized”.

"Evidence shows that these social network pages or accounts are activated from the Azerbaijani IP (Internet Protocol) domain, often accessing each time with different devices - computer, mobile phone, iPad. They do it on different days and hours,” the HRDO’s statement reads.

The HRDO did not specify how many social network accounts had been “seized” in such a fashion.

“Therefore, we must be extremely careful when using or disseminating material that is shared on social networks, verifying the authenticity of the material being disseminated even if we personally know the user of the page,” the HRDO writes.
