Armenian Parliamentary Deputy Speaker, French Ambassador Discuss Post-War Situation

Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Vahe Enfiajyan and French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacôte met today in Yerevan and discussed the Karabakh post-war situation.

Enfiajyan, according to a statement released by his office, told Lacôte that Armenia is thankful for the Karabakh resolutions approved by the two chambers of the French Parliament.

Regarding the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Enfiajyan stressed the importance of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, including the role of France.

He noted that the issue is often mistakenly described as a territorial dispute, but is really a struggle for self-determination, a matter of human rights.

Touching upon the importance of the statement signed on November 9,

Ambassador Lacôte noted that the November 9 ceasefire document does not solve all the conflict’s problems and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs have an important role to play in this regard.

This format, according to Lacôte, allows for dialogue with both sides.

According to Lacôte, talks on issues not included in the statement should be resumed, noting that the status of Nagorno Karabakh is not finalized. He called for mechanisms ensuring the return of displaced persons and POWs.

Lacôte said that the Lachin corridor should be given a more stable status and thatthe new border between Armenia and Azerbaijan should be strengthened.
