Pashinyan, In Lengthy Facebook Post, Says People Still Support Him

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, in a lengthy Facebook post today, said that he will only resign when a majority of the people voice such a desire.

“Since such an expression of will hasn't occured, I will continue to perform my functions as prime minister and I have pledged to do so honestly and sincerely. I want to emphasize again that the number one task today is to stabilize the security situation around Armenia, and we will consistently follow this path,” Pashinyan wrote.

Referring to recent Azerbaijani violations of the November 9 Karabakh ceasefire, Pashinyan wrote that the Artsakh Defense Army should not take any actions, like those launched by Azerbaijani forces, that are designed to undermine and devalue the role of Russian peacekeepers there.

Pashinyan said that Baku is flexing its muscles in areas where Russian peacekeepers had yet to be deployed.

Pashinyan said that Russian peacekeepers weren’t deployed in the Khtsaberd-Hin Tagher section until Saturday.

He called on Russian peacekeepers to make sure that territories under Armenian control as of November 9, when the ceasefire was declared, remain so.

Pashinyan said that the clarification of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the southern Syunik region also requires urgent attention.

“But I would like to emphasize again that at any stage of the implementation of the November 9 statement, Armenia's internationally recognized borders have remained and will remain intact. That is, the principle of inviolability of the borders of the Republic of Armenia cannot be questioned in any way,” Pashinyan wrote.

Pashinyan called for patience and understanding regarding the return of Armenian POWs, describing the process as “very complicated”.

“At this stage, we must begin to return the captives whose captivity has been officially confirmed by Azerbaijan and the Red Cross, and then focus more on the search for our unknown brothers, some of whom may have been captured.” Pashinyan wrote, adding that the process to locate and identify bodies of Armenian soldiers killed during the war will not be completed this year.

Pashinyan said that a three-day period of mourning will be declared in Armenia on December 19, the fortieth day of the end of hostilities, and that a memorial march will also be organized from Yerevan’ Republic Square to Yerablur.

He said that a propaganda war has been launched against Armenia and referred to circulating rumors that his government has ceded Sevan, Jermuk and Syunik to Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan refuted allegations that members of his family had left Armenia after the war broke out in September.

As to rumors that he owns a private house overseas, Pashinyan said the only real estate his family owns is the apartment in Yerevan’s Shengavit District.
