Armenian Defense Minister Tours Country's Southeastern Defensive Positions

Armenian Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan today visited the country’s southeastern border with Azerbaijan and toured new defensive positions being built.

The visit follows security concerns recently voiced by residents that the new border, in sections, separates Armenian and Azerbaijani military posts by a mere 100 meters.

According to a defense ministry statement, Harutyunyan checked on living conditions in the new frontline positions for Armenian servicemen and inspected work on building new trenches.

Area Military Unit Commander Major General Jirayr Poghosyan said that infrastructure work is increasing and will expand this spring.

During the meeting with the staff of the military unit, Harutyunyan thanked those servicemen who fought in the recent Artsakh war, awarding outstanding officers and conscripts.

Harutyunyan promised that the ministry will take all measures to make the front line as safe as possible for servicemen.
