Bright Armenia Party Drafts Bill to Create Fact-Finding Group on Artsakh War

The Bright Armenia (Lusavor Hayastan) parliamentary faction has drafted a bill to create a fact-finding group to investigate the causes of the recent war in Artsakh and the reasons for the Armenian defeat.

The group, if approved by the parliament, will include those political parties/forces that garnered the top six spots in the 2018 parliamentary election.

The group will be comprised of sixteen members: three parliamentary forces with four representatives each, three extra-parliamentary forces with one representative each), as well as the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia.

Bright Armenia, in a statement released today, says that Armenian society will face the consequences of the war for many years to come and that it is vital to understand and comprehensively analyze the lessons from the defeat.

“We have all witnessed the 44-day war, the incessant contradictory statements, the mutual accusations, the security, political and socio-economic problems we face as a result of the war,” the statement reads.

The group will review the performance of Pashinyan’s government during the war, as well as diplomatic efforts and armament procurements before the war.

The group will be given a ten-month period to compile a report of its findings that will be sent to the National Assembly.

Bright Armenia says copies of the bill have been sent to the political parties/forces in question for comment and modification and that a final version will be drafted based on their response.
