Former Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute Deputy Head Found Innocent of Official Abuse Charges

Colonel Zarmik Markosyan, a former deputy head of Armenia’s Vazgen Sargsyan Military Institute, has been found innocent of charges that he created privileged conditions for his son at the institute.

Markosyan’s son, Gnel Tosyan, is one of the four military cadets accused of murdering fellow cadet Haykaz Barseghyan in January 2015.

Barseghyan’s body was found hanging from a rope attached to the horizontal bar in the gym of a training unit in Yerevan he was assigned to.

The Barseghyan murder is still being investigated.

After his son was accused of murder, Zarmik Markosyan was relieved of his post at the institute.

Evidence found during the murder investigation led to Markosyan being charged with “abuse of official position” violations.
