Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II has appointed Bishop Vrtanes Abrahamyan to replace Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan as Primate of the Artsakh Diocese.

Martirosyan suffered a heart attack in November 2020 and went to the United States for treatment. He recovered and returned to Armenia the following month.

Abrahamyan had been serving as the RA Armed Forces Chaplain.
